Teachers Awareness and Utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ict) in Teaching and Learning of Biology in Senior Secondary Schools in Ekiti State

The study investigated secondary school Biology teachers' knowledge and integration of ICT tools in performing their duties in Ado-Ekiti L.G.A of Ekiti State. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The place and roles of ICT tools in Education, teacher preparation for ICT integration in schools among other related literatures were covered in the study. Descriptive census survey design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 33 Biology teachers. A questionnaire containing 74 items was the instrument for data collection. The questionnaire was face validated by three lecturers. Test The external consistency reliability coefficient of the instrument is 0.7. Mean, and standard deviation were the statistical tools used for data analysis. From the analysis carried out, it was found among others that Biology teachers understand ICT to include group of tools used by media houses to broadcast news, tools used to store information, tools that makes CBT feasible, etc. Biology teachers require tools including laptops and computers, photocopy machines, mobile phones, printers, etc, for the performance of their duties as Biology teachers but however, do not require some ICT resources including DVD, television, MIFI connector, radio, etc for the performance of their duties, Biology teachers utilizes tools including laptops and computers, photocopy machines, mobile phones, printers, etc. It was based on the findings, concluded that Biology teachers understanding and knowledge of ICT and its resources is incomplete. One of the recommendations made was for improving the awareness of the benefits of the use of ICT resources through seminars, workshops, etc.TABLE OF CONTENTS:ContentPageTITLE
