Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study entitled “Effective Decision-Making and Organizational Goal Achievement in
the University of Abuja”, examined the relationship between effective decision-making
and organizational goal achievement at the University of Abuja. The study specifically
focused on five objectives, including investigating the contribution of effective decisionmaking to goal achievement, identifying influencing factors, examining challenges,
assessing their impact, and analyzing decision-making strategies. In view of these
objectives, two hypotheses were formulated and were tested with the aid of Chi-Square
test tool. The study employed a survey research design, sampling 395 respondents from a
population of 32,804. Data were analyzed with frequency distribution tables and in
percentages. Findings indicated that effective decision-making aligns the university's
actions with strategic goals, allocates resources efficiently, and adapts to internal and
external changes. Key factors influencing effective decision-making include clear
governance structure, strong leadership, and clear communication channels. However,
challenges such as complex bureaucratic structures, inadequate data, limited resources,
and rigid hierarchical culture hinder effective decision-making, leading to delayed
progress, resource misallocation, eroded trust, and tarnished reputation. To improve
effective decision-making processes, achieve organizational goals, and enhance its
reputation in the University of Abuja, the study recommended simplifying bureaucratic
structures and implementing a flexible hierarchical culture; developing robust data
collection and analysis systems; establishing comprehensive resource allocation
frameworks; encouraging cross-departmental collaboration and establishing regular
feedback mechanisms; developing leadership capacity through training and development
programmes; and developing effective strategies to address resistance among faculties,
staff, and students within the University of Abuja.
