Effect of Electronic Banking System on Performance of Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria

Abstract

The study examined electronic banking system and the performance of financialinstitutions with special reference/selected commercial banks in Ekiti State.Specifically, the study assessed the impact of mobile banking on the performanceof financial institutions; effect of internet banking on the performance of financialinstitutions; and significant relationship between automated teller machines and theperformance of financial institutions. Primary data was employed andquestionnaire was used to collect data from 100 respondents of some selectedcommercial banks in Ekiti State. The study employ frequency count, simplepercentage, mean and standard deviation Pearson correlation analysis andregression analysis to analyse the study. Correlation analysis demonstrated thatelectronic banking systems have a positive relationship with the performance ofcommercial banks. Mobile banking has a very strong positive relationship with theperformance of banks (r = 0.806, p= 0.000). Moreover, the performance of bankshave a moderate positive relationships with ATM banking (r= 0.547, p = 0.000),and the internet banking (r=0.466, p=000). The study concluded that electronicbanking predict performance of financial institutions and that mobile banking havea significant impact on the performance of commercial banks.
