Extaction, Phytochemicals Screening and Elemental Analysis of Corchorus Olitorius Leave

Abstract

Phytochemical and Elemental determination of Corchorus olitorius was conducted. The result of the Phytochemical analysis of the aqueous leaf extract of Corchorus olitorius revealed a high presence of carborhydrates, tannins and flavonoids were highly present in the extract. Phenol, quinome and alkaloids were present in medium quantity while Coumarins and steroids occurred in minute quantity, Terpenoids, were not present in the extract.. The Elemental analysis showed presence of Calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc, Cadmium were in medium concentration. Elemental analysis was done using atomic absorption spectrophotometer .The elemental concentrations were determined by a standard calibration curve method. It is therefore concluded that the aqueous leaf extract of Corchorus olitorius contains Pharmacologically useful active principles elements. Thus the aqueous leaf extract of the plant could play vital roles in health and disease.
