Abstract
In the pursuit of sustainable energy sources, the study evaluates the performance of biofuels, specifically bioethanol derived from sugarcane, in water-tube boilers compared to diesel. The research aims to bridge the gap in understanding the nuanced dynamics of biofuel application in industrial settings, focusing on ignition time, flame stability, steam generation capacity, and cost-effectiveness. Experimental methodologies were employed to characterize bioethanol and diesel in terms of ignition time and flame stability. Results indicate that bioethanol exhibits a shorter ignition time (5 seconds) and steady flame stability compared to diesel (7 seconds, moderate stability), suggesting potential advantages for efficient combustion. Steam generation capacity analysis reveals that diesel outperforms bioethanol, attributed to its higher energy density. Cost analysis demonstrates that while diesel requires less volume for steam generation, bioethanol offers a more cost-effective solution due to its lower price per liter. These findings underscore the economic viability and environmental benefits of utilizing bioethanol in water-tube boilers, despite its lower steam generation capacity. The study concludes that bioethanol holds promise as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, offering advantages in ignition time, flame stability, and cost-effectiveness. Recommendations include further characterization of bioethanol, efficiency analysis, and comparative studies to deepen understanding and enhance its industrial adoption. This research provides valuable insights for industries seeking informed decisions on fuel transition, potentially fostering a shift towards sustainable and economically sound industrial operations.
