Abstract
ABSTRACT Neem oil, obtained from the seeds of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), is renowned for its diverse medicinal, cosmetic, and therapeutic properties. This study focuses on the extraction of neem oil using the cold-press method and solvent extraction techniques to preserve its bioactive compounds, including azadirachtin, nimbin, and various essential fatty acids. The process aimed to optimize yield while maintaining the oil's purity and potency. The extracted oil was evaluated for its physicochemical properties, such as viscosity, color, odor, and stability, to determine its suitability for hair care applications. Neem oil's rich composition, including antioxidants, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties, makes it an ideal ingredient for addressing common hair and scalp concerns. These include dandruff, itchy scalp, hair breakage, premature greying, and hair loss. A prototype hair treatment product was developed incorporating neem oil, designed to be safe, effective, and eco-friendly. The formulation was further enriched with complementary natural ingredients to enhance its moisturizing, nourishing, and conditioning properties. Preliminary evaluations of the hair treatment product demonstrated its efficacy in improving scalp health, reducing dandruff, and promoting stronger, shinier hair. This study highlights the potential of neem oil as a sustainable and versatile raw material for the development of natural hair care products, aligning with growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly and herbal-based cosmetic solutions. Future research may explore scaling up production and conducting extensive clinical trials to validate the product's effectiveness.
