The Utilization of Digital Library Resources for Academic Activities by Students of the Faculty of Education at Northwest University Kano

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The rapid advancement of digital technology has transformed access to academic resources in universities. This study investigates the utilization of digital library resources among students of the Faculty of Education at Northwest University, Kano. It examines students’ awareness, frequency of usage, types of resources accessed, and challenges encountered in using digital library facilities. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from students in the Faculty of Education. A total of 368 questionnaires were distributed, with 338 valid responses analyzed. The findings reveal that 76.9% of students are aware of digital library resources, but only 41.4% use them frequently. The major challenges identified include inadequate infrastructure (25.1%), lack of awareness (23.1%), and difficulty accessing resources (22.2%). The study concludes that while students recognize the importance of digital library resources, their usage remains suboptimal due to infrastructural and awareness-related challenges. The study recommends enhanced digital infrastructure, user training programs, and awareness campaigns to improve the utilization of digital resources.
