Knowledge and Perception of Healthcare Professionals Towards the Adoption and Use of Telemedicine for Patient Care in Eksuth, Ado Eki

ABSTRACT This study investigates the knowledge and perception of healthcare professionals regarding the adoption and utilization of telemedicine at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti. It aims to understand the factors influencing the acceptance and implementation of telemedicine within this academic medical setting. The research explores the concept of telemedicine, its applications in healthcare, and the challenges and considerations associated with its use. A mixed-methods approach was employed to collect data from healthcare professionals at EKSUTH, analyzing their level of knowledge, perceptions towards telemedicine, and the factors affecting its adoption. A total of 105 respondent participated in this study. All questionnaires were retrieved back and data analysis was done by means of descriptive statistics with the use of statistical package for social statistics (SPSS). The finding revealed that majority of the health professionals which includes Doctors and Nurses had adequate knowledge of telemedicine and its benefits to patients. The findings reflect a positive attitude towards telemedicine, with recognition of its benefits and the factors influencing its adoption and use among healthcare professionals at EKSUTH. The findings reveal a varying degree of awareness and receptivity towards telemedicine, highlighting the potential benefits and barriers to its integration into patient care. The research conducted reveals a strong consensus on the positive impact and potential of telemedicine. The majority of respondents recognize telemedicine as a pivotal tool for providing remote healthcare services, enhancing clinical decision-making, and ensuring patient information security. There is a notable agreement on telemedicine role in facilitating emergency assistance, improving administrative efficiency, and fostering digital knowledge. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing the knowledge base and perception of healthcare professionals to foster the effective adoption of telemedicine, ultimately improving patient outcomes and healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
