Effect of Staff Development Programmes on Job Performance Among Academic Staff of Federal Polytechnic, Ado – Ekiti

Abstract
The research investigates the effect of staff development programmes on the job performance of academic staff members of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti. The research method used was the descriptive survey type. A total number of one hundred (100) respondents selectedfrom Federal Polytechnic in Ado – Ekiti, Ekiti State through simple random sampling were used. The research instrument used to collect relevant data for the study was a self – designed questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using frequency counts & percentages andalso the hypothesis were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that staff development programs significantly improve lecturers' performance in terms of teaching effectiveness, research productivity, and service delivery. The study alsofound that lecturers who participated in staff development programs were more motivated, committed, and satisfied with their jobs. The study concludes that staff developmentprograms are essential for improving the quality of higher education and ensuring that lecturers remain competent and up-to-date in their fields. It recommends that highereducational institutions should invest in staff development programs and create a culture of continuous learning and improvement to enhance their lecturers' performance and productivity. However, the research also acknowledges that training and developmentprograms can be costly and time-consuming, and therefore, it is essential to evaluate their effectiveness.
