Abstract
ixABSTRACTThis research work examines the "Assessment of Ogun State Television in Curbing Child Abuse in Ogun State". Child abuse remains a pervasive issue in Nigeria, with devastating consequences for victims. Ogun State Television (OGTV) has initiated programming aimed at curbing child abuse. This study evaluates OGTV's effectiveness in raising awareness, changing attitudes, and preventing child abuse. The study adopted Agenda Setting Theory and Developmental Media Theory. Survey method of data collection was employed. The study used Simple Random Sampling Technique to select 150 respondents among the staff and management of Ogun State Television. Results show OGTV's programming has positively impacted awareness (80%), attitudes (85%), and knowledge (75%) about child abuse prevention. However, funding constraints, limited staff training, and inadequate communily engagement hinder effectiveness. It was concluded that OGTV plays a vital role in curbing child abuse in Ogun State. While challenges persist, the study highlights opportunities for enhancement. Recommendations include increased funding, staff training, community outreach, targeted programming, and collaboration with NGOs und government agencies. It was recommended that government should allocate sufficient resourcess to support OGTV's child abuse prevention initiatives, ensuring consistent and high-quality programming as well as to provide regular training for OGTV staff on child abuse prevention, reporting, and media ethics to ensure effective content creation and dissemination. Keywords: Child Abuse, Ogun State Television (OGTV), Curbing, Ogun State
