Abstract
ABSTRACTThis study examines the effects of safety and security threats on rural-urban migration in Ekiti State, Nigeria, with a specific focus on the impact of kidnapping, banditry, and public health crises. Utilizing a descriptive survey research design, the study surveyed 100 participants, including rural residents, urban migrants, local government officials, security personnel, and community leaders, selected through simple random sampling. The findings indicate that kidnapping, banditry, and public health crises are significant predictors of rural-urban migration, with kidnapping rates having the most substantial impact. As kidnapping, banditry, and public health issues increase, rural-urban migration also tends to increase. The study concludes that addressing safety and security threats, alongside improving public health infrastructure, is crucial to mitigate rural-urban migration in Ekiti State. The study recommends government intervention through increased security presence, robust prosecution of criminals, enhanced public health services, and investments in rural development initiatives to address the socio-economic factors driving migration.
