Abstract

This project, Optimization of the Solar PV System in the Mechanical Engineering Building, FUTO:Improving Power Production and Energy Storage Capacity, addresses the urgent need for enhancedrenewable energy solutions. The existing solar photovoltaic (PV) system in the department fallsshort of meeting daily energy demands, generating only 7,500Wh of the required 12,500Wh andlacking sufficient energy storage for cloudy or rainy days. Additionally, the system faces challengessuch as improper battery management and insufficient capacity for additional loads.This project aims to optimize the existing solar PV system by increasing its power production andenergy storage capabilities. Key objectives include maximizing energy yield, improving systemreliability, and reducing downtime. The methodology involves conducting a detailed energy audit,upgrading panel configurations, implementing advanced storage technologies, and fabricating adurable battery rack to extend battery life. The study evaluates the cost-effectiveness and longterm benefits of these optimizations compared to grid reliance.By integrating advanced materials and techniques, this project demonstrates the potential oftailored solar energy solutions to meet the specific energy requirements of academic institutionswhile aligning with global sustainability goals.
