Abstract
This study investigated the assessment of physical education teachers in their teaching methods in primary schools in Ethiope East Local Government Area, using the descriptive research survey design. The population of the study is made up of primary school students for the 2023/2024 academic session in the 26 primary schools. Given the large number of students within the study area, the sample size of two hundred and fifty (250) respondents was used for this study. Data were collected through questionnaire items that were distributed to the respondents in the schools. The result showed that 70% of the respondents believe that traditional teaching methods are commonly used. Similarly, 60% of the participants agree that modern teaching techniques are frequently incorporated into physical education (PE) lessons. 75% of respondents felt that these methods actively engage students dúring lessons. Also, 75% of participants indicated that the teaching methods motivate students to participate in PE classes. 80% of respondents believe that these methods effectively enhance students' physical skills, and 75% think that they are beneficial for children's overall development. Specifically, 85% of respondents feel that these methods significantly improve students' physical fitness levels, while 85% believe that PE lessons positively contribute to cognitive skills development. Despite these positive outcomes, there is still a need to address the acknowledged weaknesses to ensure that PE classes continue to evolve and meet the diverse needs of students.
