Abstract
The study sites used in the present work were visited in February 2023. Leaf samples showing symptoms of virus infection were collected from three locations namely Anantigha, Ekorinim and Ikot Omin in Calabar south local government area and Calabar municipality area respectively. Disease incidence and serological test was used as the choice for diagnostics. Double antibody sandwich Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (DAS ELISA) procedures were employed for the detection of Amaranthus mosaic virus and to determine its incidence. Results of the ELISA tests showed that Amaranth leaf mottle virus had the highest incidence in Anantigha area of Calabar with 65 % while the lowest incidence of the virus infecting Amaranthus in Calabar was observed in Ikot Omin. Disease incidence in Ekorinim was 45 %. There was no record of mixed infection of virus on the plant. It is suggested that extensive studies be carried out on the incidence, distribution and economic status of the virus(es) in other local governments of the state due to its importance among farmers.
