Significance of Stage Lighting in Theatrical Productions in Ekiti State University Theatre Auditorium a Case Study of Midnight Hotel the Musical: by Femi Osofisan.

This study examines significance of stage lighting in theatrical productions in Ekiti State University theatre Auditorium; the semiotics and aesthetics involved, using "Midnight hotel" as primary data. The purpose of this study is to make people know the significance of stage lightning has played on theatre.Research instrument used is based on the literary work of Femi Osofisan Midnight Hotel. It has been observed from the research that many people did not know the significance of lightning on theatre and they were not knowledgeable enough about the fact that lightning is been used to show the beautiful scene and the mood of the play as it is been stated in the research work been done. The three major visual elements in a theatrical production namely: Set, Lighting and Costume were discussed in this research. The research recommended that: Adequate lighting equipment both international and Traditional should be provided for in institutions where theatre is being taught, so students who have interests in learning can be exposed to high level of technology while in school. Institutions should make conscious efforts towards stimulating interests and scholarship in the area of lighting in the theatre. Like giving upcoming light designers opportunity to intern under developed organizations that provide lighting equipment for productions; so they can have a taste of professional services in this field.
