Abstract
ABSTRACT
This examines the impact of emotional intelligence on academic achievement of students in
senior secondary school of Dawakin Tofa L.G.A. Kano State, Nigeria. The research came up
with three objectives, three research questions and three hypotheses. The objectives are to find
out the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students in
senior secondary school of Dawakin Tofa L.G.A. The second objective is to determine the effect
of emotional intelligence on academic achievement of students in senior secondary school of
Dawakin Tofa L.G.A. The third objectives to find out the way of improving academic
achievement as it relates to emotional intelligence of students in senior secondary school of
Dawakin Tofa L.G.A. The population of this study contains twenty four (24) senior secondary
schools in Dawakin Tofa LGA, Kano State with total population of ten thousand one hundred
and sixty one (10,161). The sample of this study is three hundred (300) students. Stratified
random sampling technique and the sample size for the study was obtained based on Krejcie and
Morgan table. The research used questionnaire titled “students emotional intelligence and
academic achievement Questionnaire” (SEQI)” and (SAMI). The study employed simple
percentage (%) and frequency counts to analyze the demographic characteristics and present
and interpret the data collected. The finding shows a positive relationship between academic
achievement and emotional intelligence. Significant impact of emotional intelligence on
academic achievement was found. Based on the findings, it is recommended that emotional
intelligence should be burst in the senior secondary school students, and teacher and parent and
parent should guide their student and children to acquire the skill of achievement motivation so
that they can succeed in their educational career.
