Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was carried out to evaluate the effect of insecticide residues on the nutritional quality and chemical composition of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) hay used as livestock feed. The experiment was carried out at Faculty of Agriculture Orchard, Bayero University, Kano. Cowpea plants were treated with insecticide chlorpyrifos, a commonly used organophosphate insecticide during cultivation and samples of leaves, roots, and stems were harvested, shade dried, pulverized and analyzed to determine pesticide residues, proximate composition, and mineral content using standard laboratory methods. Data collected were analyzed using SAS and means were separated at (p
