Abstract
ABSTRACT This study evaluated the prevalence and antibiotics susceptibility pattern of H. pylori from stool samples collected from students within Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri. A total of twenty (20) stool samples will be collected from twenty (20) different students within Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri. Standard microbiological methods were adopted in the isolation and identification of H. pylori from the samples. Disc diffusion techniques were adopted in the determination of the antibiotics susceptibility pattern of the isolated bacteria. Out of twenty (20) stool samples used in this study, two (2) samples were infected with H. pylori which gave prevalence of 10.0%. Results of the antibiotics susceptibility pattern showed zones of inhibition ranged from 20mm to 24mm. Most of the antibiotics were not effective against the isolates. There is need to further investigate on the various ways in which this bacterium could be prevented and treated in order to reduce the prevalence of H. pylori in the society.
