Abstract
ABSTRACT Community development projects are essential for improving the quality of life and fostering sustainable growth in local areas. However, effective implementation and success of these projects heavily depend on active citizen participation. This research explores the challenges faced by citizens in participating in community development projects. The study identifies key barriers such as lack of awareness, limited access to resources, socio-economic constraints, and inadequate support from local authorities. One hundred (100) respondents were examined with questionnaires but a total of Ninety seven (97) was retrieved. The study employed stratified sampling techniques to share the area into quarters and simple random techniques were employed to distribute the questionnaires. It also examines the impact of cultural, political factors that hinder effective participation. Additionally, the research highlights the role of community leaders and the importance of fostering a participatory culture. The findings will inform strategies to enhance citizen engagement, promote inclusivity, and ensure that community development projects are more responsive to the needs of the populace. The study therefore recommends that citizens should always involve in decision-making process, and they should be educated about their roles. By addressing these barriers, the study seeks to contribute to more effective and sustainable community development practices.
