Religion and Women Participation in Politics in Sokoto

Abstract

This research examined religion and women participation in policies using Sokoto metropolis as a case study. Lliberalism theory was adopted in examining the extent to which religion influences women participation in politics, within the context of Sokoto Metropolis. Relying on primary data obtained through structured questionnaire, women were found to be grossly underrepresented in the politics of Sokoto, Islam was formed to considerably constrained women from participating in politics. This was arrived at after an analysis of the data using quantitative descriptive analysis. This study recommends the adoption of effective control mechanism that could regulate and monitor the activities of religious group and institutions who championed discrimination against women in the society.
