Abstract
ABSTRACT The study is to investigate costume and make up as avital tool for cultural promotion and preservation inNigeria. The research design adopted for this studywas a survey design of the descriptive type ofresearch. The population of the study will consist ofsome students in the department of Theatre arts,Bamidele Olumilua University and Ekiti StateUniversity. The sample size of one hundred (100)respondents will be used for study. The instrumentused for the study was self-developed close endedquestionnaire constructed by the researcher. Thecompleted questionnaire is coded and analysed usingboth descriptive statistics. The descriptive statics offrequency counts, percentage and mean were used toanalyses the bio data of the respondents and answerthe research questions. Based on the findings of thestudy it was concluded that costume and make-uphas positive effect on cultural and promotion inNigeria. It was also concluded that costume andmake-up has a positive relationship with cultural andtourism preservation in Nigeria. It was recommendedthat going with knowledge that education is the orderof the day, culture and its elements, for instancecostume and makeup, should be built into the schoolcurriculum, starting from small to know that theseelements can be used to represent a people. Costumeand make up designers should embrace the habit ofattending different festivals, which portray thepeople’s culture, as to be versatile in their art andalways be able to present those designs whenever the need calls.
