Effects of Office Automation on the Job Performance of Secretaries in Asaba Metropolis, Delta State

Abstract. The research work is a study on the Impact of Office automation on the job performance of secretaries in Asaba Metropolis, Delta State. Three specific purposes and their corresponding research questions and one null hypothesis guided the study. The study is a descriptive survey with a population of 33. There was no sample size; the entire population was utilized because it was manageable. A structured questionnaire validated by three experts was used as instrument for data collection. Reliability of the instrument was ensured by trial-testing at Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku and responses gotten were analysed using Cronbach alpha statistic and it yielded an index of 0.82. Responses to the questionnaire items were analysed using percentages while the null hypothesis was tested using chi-square statistical tool at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that modern office facilities enhance the job performance of secretaries and that the use of modern office facilities influence the performance of secretaries in the institution studied. On the strength of these findings and others, it was recommended among others that secretaries who lack adequate knowledge and skill in the usage of modern office facilities and equipment should be retrained to fit into the current trend of technological advancement for effective performance.
