Abstract
ABSTRACT In Nigeria, most organization still rely on traditional ways of taking attendance of their members coming to work. This traditional attendance method lacks integrity and can easily be manipulated by corrupt officers or users. To address the limitations of manual attendance systems, the use of facial recognition has been proposed. The limitation of such system is that it is expensive to setup and high maintenance cost. It also requires additional hardware integration for broader compatibility. The use of fingerprint and FRID has been proposed, the challenges with this method is the cost for large-scale deployments, potential biases and inaccuracies. Some of the problems associated with the existing solution is that they cannot be customized and requires high cost of maintenance. To overcome these challenges, this project leverages IoT technology and biometric authentication to create a reliable attendance system. The system integrates a fingerprint scanner with a microcontroller connected to a cloud-based server, enabling real-time data processing and storage. Each user's unique pre-fingerprint is registered and authenticated during attendance, ensuring accuracy and eliminating the possibility of proxy attendance. The IoT-based design allows remote monitoring and management, offering scalability and flexibility for institutions of varying sizes. The system also features a user-friendly interface for administrators to generate reports and analyze attendance trends.
