The Challenges Facing Islam and the Way Out:a Case Study of Kuchigoro Community of Fct Abuja

Abstract
Abstract This study was designed to examine the challenges facing Islam in Kuchigoro community of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja. To achieve the stated objectives, six (6) research question guided the study. Descriptive survey design was used for the study. The population of the study consist of all the community leader, religious leaders, and residents in Kuchigoro community of FCT Abuja. Simple random sampling techniques was used sampled one and eighty respondents from the five (5) community in Kuchigoro. Questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. The instrument was administered to the respondents with the aid of two research assistant. The statistical tools used to elicit information from the respondents was frequency count, simple percentage and means score. The findings revealed among others that religious differences, economic disparities, lack of community awareness are the major factor that contributes to religious intolerance and conflicts in the area and that promoting intercultural dialogue, providing community education, involving local leadership and religious leaders, and implementing government-level policies as effective strategies for harmonizing cultural influences with Islamic religious obligations in Kuchigoro. Based on the findings, recommendations were made that Encourage religious leaders to preach tolerance and inclusion within their sermons and teachings. Promote interfaith dialogue and engagement. Encourage discussions and events that bring together people from different religious backgrounds to build bridges of understanding, tolerance, and cooperation among other recommendations proffered.
