Abstract
The increasing global demand for sustainable construction practices has led to the integration of green building technologies in commercial buildings. This study assesses the viability of incorporating these technologies in Nigeria’s commercial construction sector, considering key factors such as implementation challenges, potential benefits, and stakeholder perceptions. A descriptive research design was adopted, and data was collected through a structured questionnaire administered to construction and design firms experienced in green building practices. The data was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to evaluate the feasibility and impact of adopting green technologies. Findings reveal that while green building technologies offer significant benefits, including energy efficiency, reduced environmental impact, and long-term cost savings, their adoption in Nigeria faces key barriers such as high initial costs, lack of awareness, and resistance to change from traditional construction methods. Despite these challenges, the study identifies opportunities to improve adoption through financial incentives, education and awareness programs, and the training of more experts in green building technologies. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on sustainable construction in Nigeria and provides valuable insights for policymakers, developers, and stakeholders in making informed decisions about the integration of green building technologies in commercial projects.
