Abstract
ABSTRACT This study assesses the utilization of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems and analyzes their impact on the security of students within university laboratory environments. Laboratories, by nature, house valuable equipment and hazardous materials, making student safety and asset protection critical. The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, employing surveys and interviews to gather data from students, laboratory staff, and security personnel concerning their perceptions of CCTV effectiveness, its role in deterrence, investigation, and proactive monitoring, and its effect on students' sense of security and privacy concerns. Key findings are expected to demonstrate a statistically significant correlation between the presence of functioning CCTV and a reduction in reported security incidents (e.g., theft, unauthorized access, safety violations). The results will inform policy recommendations aimed at optimizing CCTV placement, maintenance, and protocol adherence to enhance student security without unduly infringing on academic freedom or personal privacy. This research contributes to the literature on campus security technology adoption and its specific application in high-risk academic settings.
