Marxism Perspective of Nwagbo Pat Obi’s When Women Go Naked.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Nwagbo’s When Women Go Naked chronicles the various shades of gender dysphoria and social marginalization in the Nigerian society especially among the Igbo culture. Class struggle as a result of stratification is a global phenomenon where the ruling class oppress the ruled and this has been reflected in literature overtime. The study attempts a critical analysis of the presence of class struggle and gender roles and inequality in Pat Nwagbo's When Women Go Naked. The Marxist theory is adopted as theoretical framework and discovered the presence of class struggle as a result of capitalism: the oppression of the working class by the ruling class, gender inequality (oppression of women) and the resistance, through revolution, of the oppressed working class. The study concludes that Nwagbo's When Women Go Naked has the issue of class stratification and struggle alongside gender inequality.
