Impact of Cooperate Social Responsibility on Community Development

Abstract
ABSTRACT The main purpose of this study was to examine the Impact of Corporate Social Responsibility on Community Development. The case study was International Breweries Plc, llesa, Osun State. The firm engages in number of CSR application which were focused on it local community. Primary data were collected by means of self-administered structured questionnaire that concentrated on CSR and community development of the brewery firm. Secondary Data also collected from articles and journals. Data collected were analysed through a statistical method of Chi-Square for the literature review of the study. The population size of the study was six hundred and eighty-five (685). Sixty (60) respondents were obtained using a strained random sampling technique. The presentation was done by the use of tables. The findings revealed that the firm has managed to empower local communities by promoting self-reliance and creativity of local communities and improve the welfare of the household economy of the local community, using the process of empowerment through Human Development, Business Development and Community Development. This study concluded that that any firm that gives employment opportunity to members of the community where it operates can boost its corporate identity and image. Also, any firm that assists the community in areas such as donation of project, scholarship to students, support for cultural and sporting activities among others, have a positive influence on customers' patronage and loyalty as well as employee loyalty, which ultimately may boost the image of such firm. Therefore, it may no longer be accepted for corporations or business organisations to neglect CSR. The role of businesses in society is no longer focused on creating wealth alone but also focused on acting responsibly towards the community at large.
