Abstract
The study was carried out to investigate the effect of strain on growth performance and linear body measurement of broiler chickens. The three distinct genetic strains of broiler chickens used were Arbor Acre, Cobb 500 each represented by 30 birds per treatment replicated thrice. Throughout the experiment, comprehensive data collection was conducted, encompassing measurements of body weight, linear body dimensions (thigh length, shank length, wing length, body length, and breast girth), feed intake, and feed conversion ratio. Results revealed significant variations among the genetic strains across various performance metrics. Notably, Cobb 500 demonstrated superior performance in terms of total feed intake, average feed intake per bird, average body weight per bird, average body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio compared to Arbor Acre and Ross 308. Similarly, distinct differences in linear body measurements were observed, with Cobb 500 consistently exhibiting larger dimensions compared to the other strains. Therefore, the preferred genetic strain for commercial broiler production in similar conditions is Cobb 500, given its superior growth characteristics.
