Abstract
ABSTRACT Armpit is the hallow area under the arm, between the arm and body. This study sought a comprehensive understanding of the microbial diversity, in armpit due to its position and non –exposure to light always. Armpit swabs were collected using sterile techniques from both gender (male and female individual). The samples were cultured on nutrient agar, and colony characteristics such as shape, elevation, margin, surface, and color were recorded. Biochemical assays, including Gram staining, catalase, coagulase, oxidase, and indole tests, were performed to confirm the identity of the isolates. The morphological analysis revealed distinct bacterial characteristics, with colonies ranging from circular to irregular shape; flat to entire; undulate to curled; rough to smooth; and white to cream. The samples collected tested positive and negative to biochemical test revealing the presence of Bacillus spp, staphylococcus, Streptomyces, Enterococcus spp, and Klebsiella pneumonia. This findings showed that armpit are capable of harbouring harmful organisms. The armpit should be kept under proper hygiene by using deodorant to reduce sweat.
