Abstract
In this study, investigation of the level of emission of power flux density from step down transformer in Calabar south and environs was carried out at ten locations. Electric and magnetic field strength was measured using electro smog ED78S and distance from the transformer were measured with a meter rule, at (2m, 4m, 6m, 8m, 10m). The Electric and magnetic field values were used to calculate the power flux density emission from the various transformers. From the study, it was found that 80% of the transformers considered showed decrease power flux density created as distance increase. The Evaluated data showed a maximum value 9W/m2 at distance of 2m from transformer. Hence the electric field obtained in this study is found to be below the exposure limit set by the international commission for non-ionizing radiation protection (ICNIRP) which is giving as 10kv/m for occupational exposure and 5kv/m for general public exposure.
