Abstract
ABSTRACT The financial management of students in tertiary institutions is a critical area of study, as it directly influences their academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being. Rising costs of education and living expenses, coupled with varying levels of financial literacy, have heightened the need to understand students’ expenditure patterns. This study employs statistical methods to analyze the financial behavior of students in tertiary institutions, focusing on identifying spending patterns, examining determinants of financial decision-making, and evaluating the role of financial literacy. Key findings highlight significant disparities in expenditures based on socioeconomic status, gender, and geographic location, as well as the impact of financial literacy on budgeting and spending habits. The study provides actionable insights for policymakers, educators, and financial institutions to develop targeted interventions aimed at improving students' financial literacy and promoting sustainable financial practices. These findings contribute to addressing the financial challenges faced by students, ultimately fostering their academic success and long-term economic resilience.
