The Problems Affecting Effective Implementation of Public Policies in the Local Government System in Nigeria (a Case Study of Esan West Local Government Area, Edo State)

Abstract

ABSTRACT Obstacle to etfective implementation of polices in the local government system in Nigeria, using a case study of Esan west local government area in Edo state. It is contentions among scholars that there is a significant effect on policy implementation in Esan west local government area. Related literatures were reviewed. A population of nine hundred and fourty eighty (948) employees from which wo hundred and eighty one (281) was randomly selected. uestionnaires were administered, retrieved and analyzed using simple percentage method. Findings revealed that corruption has a significant contribution on policy implementation in Esan west local government area of Edo state. On the basis of the findings, the following recommendation were made that poor policy implementation programs can be put to an end by properly supervising any program or project been carried out in Esan west local government area and also ensuring due process and necessary measure are followed in preparing policy implementation programs.
