Abstract
ABSTRACT Garcinia kola has deep roots in African traditional medicine and cultural practices. For generations, indigenous communities have utilized bitter kola for its alleged healing properties. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of crude Garcinia kola in Wistar rats on lipid profile. Wistar rats were randomly allocated to four experimental groups, (n=6 per group) after 14 days of acclimatization. Group 1 served as the control and was supplied clean water throughout the experiment, Groups 2,3 and 4 served as the experimental groups and received 1000mg/kgbwt, 1200mg/kgbwt and 1400mg/kgbwt of Garcinia kola respectively. The experimental groups were all fed with crude Garcinia kola daily for 21 days. At the end of the experimetal period(21 days), the animals were cervically decapitated and the blood sample was obtained from the animals and kept in EDTA botles.
