Abstract
Sleep deprivation has emerged as a significant public health issue in modern society, with far- reaching consequences for both physical and mental health. It has been shown to have effect on peptic ulcers by either aiding in peptic ulcer development or disturbs its healing. As an effect, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of sleep deprivation on the secretion of gastric acid, which can be tagged as one of the mechanism by which sleep deprivation can affect peptic ulcers. 20 male wistar rat of comparable weight (100g - 120g) were assigned into 4 groups (n=5); Group 1 – Normal control (CNT), Group 2- Peptic ulcer control (PUC), Group 3- Sleep deprived 3days (SD3), Group 4- Peptic ulcer + Sleep deprived 3days (PSD3). The rats were acclimatized after which peptic ulcer was induced using acetic acid induction method for the peptic ulcer groups, and thereafter they were sleep deprived for three days. The gastric acid secretion and ulcer score were assessed on day 3 for all the groups. The result were presented as Mean ±SD, and analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the values were considered significant at p
