Abstract
Total flavonoids, total phenolic and antioxidant activities in some selected leaves were investigated using methanolic extracts. % yield was; Gradon Croton leaves (15.8%), Gold Edge leaves (11.85%), Pride of India leaves (12.4%), Barbados Nut leaves (9.2%) and Beach Sheoak leaves (19.7%) respectively. Results obtained for the determination of Total phenolic were; Gradon Croton leaves (22.16mg/GA/g), Gold Edge leaves (17.56mg/GA/g), Pride of India leaves (22.14mg/GA/g), Barbados Nut leaves (22.52mg/GA/g) and Beach Sheoak leaves (22.69mg/GA/g) respectively. Results obtained for the determination of Total flavonoids were ; Gradon Croton leaves (11.52mg/QE/g), Gold Edge leaves (7.65mg/QE/g), Pride of India leaves (17.20mg/QE/g), Barbados Nut leaves (17.93mg/QE/g) and Beach Sheoak leaves (11.17mg/QE/g) respectively. DPPH revealed that; Gradon Croton leaves (64.05%), Gold Edge leaves (74.63%), Pride of India leaves (62.40%), Barbados Nut leaves (60.92%) and Beach Sheoak leaves (67.29%) respectively. All the leaves revealed the presence of flavonoid, phenolics and antioxidant contents which is an indication that the plant leaves are potential source of antioxidant and could be used as a natural antioxidant.
