Abstract
This study investigates “The Impact of Social Media on the Practice of Community Journalism Among Journalist in Osun State”. It gives an indepth knowledge and understanding on how social media have enhanced the productivity of journalists in Osun State. This was done using survey method which questionnaire was adopted as data collection instrument. Questionnaires were administered to 150 respondents drawn from journalists under the umbrella of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osogbo chapter using purposive sampling technique. The study adopted Technological Determinism and Development Media Theory. Findings reveal that social media significantly enhances news sourcing, dissemination, and audience engagement. Journalists perceive social media as essential for community journalism, leveraging platforms for real-time updates and citizen participation. However, challenges persist, including information overload and verification difficulties. The study concludes that social media has revolutionized community journalism in Osun State, offering unparalleled opportunities for journalists to engage citizens and share news. The study recommends strategic social media integration, training, and ethical guidelines for journalists to maximize benefits and mitigate challenges. Regulatory bodies should establish guidelines for social media use in journalism. Keywords: Social Media, Practice, Community Journalism, Journalists
