Influence of Social Media on Cybercrime Prevalence Among the Youth of Nnewi Commercial City

Abstract
ABSTRACT The study examines the Influence of social media on cybercrime prevalence among the youth of Nnewi commercial city. The study adopted four research questions and four research objectives, focusing on; to examine the motivates youths in Nnewi commercial city engage in cybercrime activities on social media, to find out if social media platforms influence the perpetuation of cybercrime among youths in Nnewi commercial city, to examine the effective of current cybercrime prevention strategies among youths in Nnewi commercial city. The study employed survey design as the research design and stratified random as the sampling technique. The population of the study was 391,227, while the sample size was 399. Findings from the study revealed that Establishing disciplinary punishments for cybercrime is the major effective measures of cybercrime prevention strategies among youths in Nnewi commercial city. The study recommends that social media users must be careful when following links that are provided by unknown and uncertified persons or sources as most victims of cybercrimes are those who followed links placed by unsuspecting fraudsters.
