Abstract
Abstract The research work focused on the use of hard drugs in selected Nigerian music videos and its influence on Auchi Polytechnic students. The researcher adopted survey method, and administered copies of questionnaire at the course of the research, using 367 respondents as the sample from the population. The research adopted the uses and gratification theory to ascertain the degree of impact that exposure to the usage of hard drugs in Nigeria music videos has on students. The study discovered that hip-hop music videos be practiced in the positive light, while acknowledging the fact that it is near impossible to do without usage of hard drugs, curse words, sexual scenes and violence in hip-hop, it should be reduced to the barest minimum and like already stated before, hip-hop should be seen as and used as a viable means of employment for the youths. Hence, this report recommends that in order to keep music videos sane, the rules should be more water-tight instead of using the rules to witch hunt a few artists the censoring bodies are not comfortable with and the law of obscenity and bad influence should also be more strict and binding on artistes. This would go a long in deterring artistes that want their videos from portraying drug usage, sexual scenes and lyrics in their videos.
