Abstract
ABSTRACT This research critically examines the impact of motivation on employee performance using Longman Publishing Company as a case study. The main objectives of the study are to assess how job satisfaction enhances productivity, to identify key motivational factors that influence employee efficiency, and to investigate the underlying causes of low productivity within the organization. A comprehensive review of relevant literature was presented in Chapter Two to provide theoretical and empirical insights into the concept of motivation and its relationship with organizational performance. The study adopted a quantitative research design, and the chi-square statistical tool was employed to test the formulated hypotheses. The findings revealed a significant relationship between motivation and employee performance, indicating that motivation serves as a strong driver of productivity and job commitment among workers. It was further discovered that inadequate wages and salaries, as well as poor incentive structures, were major contributors to low morale and high labour turnover among staff. Based on the findings, the study concludes that the level of motivation among employees at Longman Publishing is relatively low, especially in the area of compensation and reward administration. Consequently, it is recommended that the management should urgently review and improve its wage and salary structure to align with industry standards. This adjustment will not only enhance employee satisfaction and retention but also foster greater productivity and organizational growth.
