An Assessment of Women Farmers’ Adaptation Strategy to Climate Change in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State

Abstract
This study is on the assessment of women farmers’ adaptation strategy to climate change in Kura L.G.A of Kano State. Data for the study was obtained through questionnaire and interviews with 60 respondents. From the results obtained, Majority of the respondents (75%) are married, 51.7% have at least primary education while 55.03% are within the age group 31 -50 years. Also, all the respondents explained that climate change had severe effects on their production in the study area. Problems such as High cost of improved crop varieties, Poor irrigation systems/ facilities, Lack of credit facilities, Lack of storage facilities, High cost of modern farming machineries. It was recommended that Government should organize workshop and seminar for the farmers on better adaptation strategies in combating the effect climate change, financial institutions should assist farmers in accessing credits which will help boost their financial strength in their bid to adapt/manage the effect of climate change, Efforts should be made by the farmer to provide enough storage facilities which will help in reducing losses due to the effect of climate change and Government through its agencies should create awareness program to educate the populace on the effect of their actions in regards to nature that is leading to inconsistent climatic conditions.
