Pattern of Findings in Patients With Knee Pain Following Knee Mri at Nkdc Diagnostic Centre

Abstract
ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: movement of the lower limb bearing the weight of the entire body and transferring it to the leg and The knee joint is peculiar in its position and involved in wide range of foot. This mobility and weight bearing makes it predisposed to many injuries ranging from ligament injury, menisci injury and other forms of degenerative disorders leading to pains and swellings. MRI is now widely used as a good diagnostic tool in depicting soft tissues abnormalities within the joint knee joint with greater details. AIM/OBJECTIVES: of pathological changes and abnormalities in the knee in patients presenting with knee pain. To document the findings of knee MRI and further show the distribution patients (age range 11-78 years) who were referred to the radiology department of NKDC METHODOLOGY: A retrospective study performed over the period of eight months of 133 Diagnostic Centre, AKTH with indications of knee pain. All images were acquired using a 1.5T MRI Scanner. RESULT: The study included 106(79.7%) males and 27(20.3%) females with the mean age at presentation of 34 years. Anterior Cruciate Ligament(ACL) tear constituted the most finding which accounted for 57(46.6.%) of the study population,and medial menisci tear were seen in 50(37.6%). PCL tear was noted in 14(10.5%) patients, Lateral meniscal tear in 15(11.2%) patients. Neoplasm, joint effusion and degerative osteoarthritis were seen in 31(23.3%), 30(22.6%) and 21(15.8%) respectively. Fracture accounted for 6.0%, soft tissues infection 5.3%, lateral meniscal tear 11.3%. Other less common findings, were noted in 5 patients (3.8%) while a toal of 6(4.5%) patients didn’t show any abnormal findings despite the complains of knee pain. CONCLUSION: Cruciate ligament and menisci injuries are common in this locality within the active young adult (2nd, 3rd and 4th decades) age groups and decreases with age.
