Abstract

ABSTRACT The study examined determinants of audit fee in Nigeria: A study of listed commercial banks in Nigeria. In carrying out this study, three objectives and hypothesis were formulated to guide the study. The expo-facto research design was adopted and 10 manufacturing firms were sampled. Secondary data source was utilized which were extracted through the published financial statement of the listed firms from 2012-2023 and data obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics. The findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between audit firm size and Audit Fees among commercial banks, there is a significant relationship between board independence and Audit Fees among commercial banks as well as there is a significant relationship between audit tenure and audit fees among commercial banks. On the basis of the findings, it was recommended that auditor tenure of atleast three years and above for Nigerian commercial banks as it is capable of enhancing the Audit Fees of commercial banks in Nigeria, the commercial banks should ensure that membership of board of committees should be independent and experienced for improved market confidence and share valuation among others.
