Abstract
ABSTRACT The study investigates the potential of Trichoderma asperellum as a soil treatment agent in the cultivation of tomato seeds. Average measurement of the plants were taken weekly for the number of leaves, height of plant and number of branches. Better growth was recorded for the plants on soil treated with Trichoderma than the untreated soil. At the end of the 7th week, the average shoot height of the treated soil with Trichoderma was (12.6±2.76cm), while that of treated soil was (8.3±0.90cm). Average number of leaves was (41.6±10.97) while that of untreated was (29.8±3.91) and the average number of branches was (8.7±2.0) while that untreated was (6.6±3.91). It was observed that tomato seeds treated with Trichoderma asperellum increased by 51% in plant height, 43% in leaves and 32% in branches. These result demonstrated that Trichoderma asperellum improve plant growth, root length, number of branches of tomato plant compared to the untreated soil thus it can be used as biofertilizer.
