Influence of Information Communication Technology (ict) in Teaching and Learning of Financial Accounting in Secondary Schools in Enugu North Lga of Enugu State.

Abstract
ABSTRACT The study investigated the influence of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning of financial accounting in secondary schools in Enugu North LGA of Enugu state. Four purposes of study and four research questions guided the study. The design of the study is descriptive survey while The population of the study consisted of all the financial accounting teachers in nine (9) public secondary schools in Enugu North Local Government Area. These nine (9) schools have a population sixty-five (48) financial accounting teachers. There was no sample size because the entire population of 48 financial accounting teachers in Enugu North Local Government Area were used since the size is small and manageable. An instrument Influence of Information Communication Technology (ICT) In Teaching and Learning of Financial Accounting Questionnaire (IICTTLFAQ)” developed by the researcher was used for the data collection. The instrument was validated by three experts: two in the Department of Accounting Education and one in Measurement and Evaluation, of the Faculty of Education, Peaceland University, Enugu. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined using Cronbach Alpha Statistic and it yielded 0.71, 0.75, and 0.76 respectively while the overall score yield 0.73. This was considered high enough for this study. The researcher, along with two research assistants administered the instrument to the respondents. Direct Delivery Technique (DDT) collection method was adopted in data collection. A total of forty-eight (48) questionnaires were distributed to students, the instruments were properly returned at 100% rate. Mean was used to answer the research questions. The findings revealed that there are unavailable Information and Communications Technology (ICT) materials for teaching and learning Financial Accounting in secondary schools, that the usage of ICT facilities influences the in teaching Financial Accounting on students’ class attendance in senior secondary schools, indicates that the usage of ICT facilities influences the in teaching Financial Accounting on students’ class engagement in senior secondary schools and that teacher’s competence/Teaching method effectiveness militate against effective teaching of Financial Accounting among senior secondary schools’ students in Enugu South L.G.A of Enugu State. Based on the findings of the study, researcher recommended among others that Concerted efforts should be made to increase available ICT facilities in secondary schools. School management can achieve this by engaging in PPP (public private partnership) arrangement, wherein funding from private sector can be brought in. Again, Teachers of Financial Accounting should be trained and retrained to learn to engage students in Financial Accounting using ICT materials, as it has been proved in this study that ICT has the potential to increase students interest and participation in the academic activities
