Abstract
This project investigates the effects of Local herbal concoctions and Malabar spinach (Basella alba) on human health and well-being. In Nigeria, herbal remedies have been traditionally used for centuries, and their efficacy is rooted in a rich cultural heritage. Concurrently, Malabar spinach, a tropical leafy green, has gained recognition for its nutritional benefits and potential medicinal properties. This study aims to evaluate the impact of specific Nigerian herbal concoctions and Malabar spinach on various health parameters, including metabolic function, antioxidant activity, and overall physiological wellness. Through a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, including laboratory analyses such as phytochemical tests, heavy metal contents and anti-oxidants to identify and quantify the active bioactive compounds, and ability to neutralize free radicals and prevent oxidative damage. This research will provide a comprehensive assessment of these natural treatments. The herbal concoctions selected for study are based on their traditional use and reported health benefits, while Malabar spinach is examined for its nutritional profile and consumption safety.
