Students' Project Management System

ABSTRACT ​Managing student projects effectively in academic institutions is a critical challenge. particularly in departments with a high volume of students, such as the Computer Science Department. This study focuses on the design of a tailored Project Management System (PMS) to address the unique needs of the department. The proposed system provides a centralized platform for students, supervisors, and project coordinators to streamline project allocation, topic approval, progress tracking, and communication. The PMS introduces functionalities such as automated supervisor-student assignments, real-time comments, topic approval, and progress monitoring, unlike traditional methods. The system was developed using technologies including PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, Bootstrap, HTML, and CSS. Fact-finding techniques used in this study include observation and interviews, and the waterfall model was employed as the system development methodology. The implementation of the PMS successfully streamlined project management processes within the Department of Computer Science, reducing manual workload and improving communication between students and supervisors. Automated features such as supervisor-student assignment and progress tracking enhanced efficiency and transparency. Feedback from initial users highlighted the system's ease of use and effectiveness in addressing departmental needs. Future work includes expanding the system to other departments within the university and integrating advanced features such as Al-based project topic recommendations, real-time notifications, and enhanced analytics for performance tracking.
