Problem Solving and Time Management Skills Required of Secretaries for Effective Job Performance in the Information and Communication Technology Era (case Study of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State)

Abstract
Abstract The purpose of this work was to find out the problem solving and time management skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era, case study of Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State. The population of the study comprised of 50 confidential secretaries. The researcher decided to study the whole population because it was manageable in size. Four research questions guided the study: (1) What are the communication skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era? (2) What are the conflict resolutions skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era? (3) What are the interpersonal skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era? (4) What are the empathy skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era? Structured Questionnaires were used to analyze the data. The findings revealed that ability to settle disputes among colleagues is part of conflict resolutions skills required of secretaries for effective job performance in the ICT era. It was concluded that communication skills, conflict resolutions skills, empathy skills and interpersonal skills are required of secretaries for effective job performance. The study recommended that secretaries should put all the mentioned conflict resolution skills into practice; this will enable them to acquire more regards in performing their duties effectively.
