Abstract
ABSTRACT Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools have significantly transformed the landscape of mass communication education, influencing students' learning processes, research efficiency, and content creation. This study examines the effect of AI tools on students of Mass Communication at Taraba State University, focusing on their impact on academic performance, media literacy, and ethical considerations. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining surveys and interviews to gather data on students’ perceptions and usage of AI-powered applications such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and automated content generators. Findings indicate that AI tools enhance students’ writing, editing, and research capabilities, improving academic productivity. However, challenges such as over-reliance, misinformation, and ethical concerns regarding originality and plagiarism emerge as critical issues. The study highlights the need for AI literacy training to maximize benefits while mitigating risks. The findings contribute to ongoing discussions on AI integration in higher education and its implications for the future of journalism and mass communication studies.
