Abstract
Abstract Legislative oversight is a critical component of democratic governance, ensuring that the executive arm of government is accountable to the people. This study examines the effectiveness of legislative oversight in Taraba state, with a focus on its impact on public service delivery. Four objectives and research questions were used in guiding the research work. Principle agent theory and accountability theory was adopted. both primary and secondary methods of data collection was also used. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study investigates the extent to which the Taraba state House of Assembly exercises its oversight functions, and the challenges that hinder its effectiveness. The findings of the study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on legislative oversight and accountability, and provide recommendations for strengthening the oversight role of the Taraba state legislature.
